How to: Changing a screen door cylinder

Need to change the cylinder on a security screen door?

Here’s how:

Firstly, for a Whitco MK II Tasman lock the lock needs to be in the locked position.

To do this, when door is open you will need to press the deadlatching pin which sits above the main latch

Next, you will need to undo the cylinder retaining screw

Then insert and turn key to lock position.

 Cylinder will then pull out

Now follow steps in reverse with replacement cylinder

Hey,
I was looking for this information and finally, I found here. I’d like to say thanks for sharing this useful knowledge regarding changing a screen door cylinder. The way you lay out this post with image resources were very helpful. Didn't took me much time to change the locks on my door. Thanks again.

Hi,
I've just bought a place with one of these screen locks. The elderly previous list the key to the lock, hence me wanting to replace it. Is there a way to do this without the key, or will I need a locksmith?
Thanks

Hi,
you will require a working key to follow these steps, without a key you will require a locksmith.
